Spring Reset: Aligning with Nature through Chinese Medicine & Yoga
Spring is a season of awakening. After the quiet dormancy of winter, nature stirs—buds bloom, birdsong returns, and there’s a gentle push toward new beginnings. In both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and yoga philosophy, spring is a time of renewal, growth, and clarity—the perfect invitation to reset both body and mind.
In TCM, spring corresponds to the Wood Element, associated with the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. These organs are responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (life force), detoxification, and emotional regulation. When balanced, we feel creative, inspired, and flexible—both mentally and physically. But if stagnant, we may experience frustration, irritability, or a sense of stuckness.
Similarly, in yoga, we look to practices that move energy, support inner clarity, and encourage rooted expansion. Think twists to wring out heaviness, hip openers to release tension, and pranayama (breathwork) to energize and clear the mind.
Here’s how you can align with the energy of spring:
Move Stagnant Qi
In TCM, the liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi (life force). When liver Qi is stuck, we may feel irritable, tired, or uninspired. Practices like Yin Yoga, breathwork, and twisting postures help support the liver and gallbladder meridians, clearing emotional and physical stagnation.
Detox
Spring is the perfect time to simplify. This doesn’t mean intense cleanses or restrictions—instead, focus on hydration, fresh whole foods, leafy greens, and mindfulness. Give your body what it needs to release what it no longer does.
Cultivate Stillness
Carve out moments of quiet. Yin yoga, meditation, and journaling help soften the inner noise and awaken your intuition. Spring is a time to dream and vision—not rush. Let yourself listen deeply.
Clear Mental Clutter
Let go of beliefs or narratives that no longer reflect your truth. Use the journal prompt below to mentally "spring clean" your inner world..
🌸 Spring Mindset Reset Journal 🌸
What’s one belief, thought, or narrative I’ve been carrying that feels heavy or limiting? (Example: “I’m not doing enough.” “Things never work out for me.”)
Where did this belief come from?
Did I absorb it from my environment, or a past experience?
Is this belief actually true?
Does it reflect who I am now? Is it aligned with the life I’m creating?
How does this thought/belief make me feel?
Empowered or small? Open or closed? Expanded or restricted?
What do I choose to believe instead?
Rewrite the belief into a statement that feels empowering and true. Remember our words are spells. Speak to yourself with love.
(Example: “I always get stuck” becomes “I am capable of change and growth.” or “Things never work out for me” becomes “The universe is always working in my favour.”
What energy, intention, or feeling do I want to invite in this spring?
(Example: Ease, joy, trust, abundance, self-love, clarity.)
Closing Ritual
After that is done take all of the limiting beliefs or the mental clutter that you no longer need and burn it (safely), or bury it in the earth.
Now, speak your new belief out loud—own it. Feel it land in your body.
You get to choose what you believe.
You get to bloom.
