Autumn Renewal & Release

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) there are five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, and water—that are used to help us understand the world around us and the world within us. Just as the natural world goes through the process of change, our inner world instinctively follows the same process. The Fall season is associated with the Metal Element and are paired with the Large Intestines and the Lungs organs. Energetically, Autumn is the time to shed what no longer serves us and step into a higher state of inspiration. A quiet stillness settles over us as our energy prepares to turn inwards. We are asked to surrender, accept, and embrace change to create space for new life and possibility. It asks us to take time to be in awe and reflect on what truly is important to us.

Gratitude

Gratitude keeps us present and accepting. Being grateful is a mindfulness practice where we are asked to pause and honour what is special, unique and meaningful to us. Each moment of appreciation lights a warmth in our hearts, both filling us up and reminding ourselves to fully savour the fleeting sweet moments that life provides. Take a moment to observe the wondrous beauty of this season and reflect on all the precious gifts that you have to be grateful for.

Forgiveness

We know emotions are often stored and held in the body. These are known as SER (somatic emotional response). During this season, you might reflect on something that you have been holding onto, a grudge, an argument or hurt from the from the past. Forgiveness is often not about the other person but allowing yourself to feel a lot lighter and at peace.

If you don't feel ready to communicate the forgiveness with another, try writing a letter and burning it in an enclosed space with cornstarch. The smoke and flames act as a symbolic gesture of your release.

Breathwork

It's no coincidence that the word "inspire" literally means to "take in breath" and also means to “feel encouraged or stimulated creatively”. Both versions reflect the same thing, to feel alive. Practice slow deep diaphragmatic breaths (count in for 4-5, exhale 6-8 count).

Immunity

This is a time when we more susceptible to colds & flus. Drink warm beverages and soups, protect yourself from excess wind with scarfs and try to eliminate excess mental and physical stress.  does.
